Don Wilson - May 12, 1971

May 12,1971 @ New York (Tom Seaver)

Pity the poor National League as The Don Wilson Total Domination Tour hit New York where Wilson out-pitched the great Tom Seaver.

Roger Metzger led off the game with a single and then scored on Jimmy Wynn's double. Seaver settled down after that and was indeed Tom Terrific until the later innings striking out 8 in the first six innings. Wilson matched Seaver's strike out total while shutting out the Mets through six.

The Astros picked up an unearned run in the top of the seventh when Don Hahn misplayed a Metzger fly ball allowing Doug Rader to score. Jimmy Wynn scored on an eighth inning Norm Miller double. Cesar Cedeno's single brought Miller home to give the Astros a 4-0 lead.

Fred Gladding relieved Wilson in the ninth and allowed an inherited runner to score. It would be the only tally for the Mets.

Although Seaver struck out 9 while walking only 1, the Astros did tag him for 10 hits.

The big surprise of the these first few games has been the Astros hitting. It really wasn't very good in real life, but it's been pretty good so far in the replay.
