Allentown Cardinals 001 011 011 - 5
Hagerstown Braves   101 100 010 - 4

The Cards take the rubber game with a ninth inning run. This was practically a pitchers' duel compared to the first two games.

And that's it for the Interstate League.

1920 Negro National League Tournament Round 1 - Chi. Am. Giants v Chi. Giants

Chicago Giants vs Chicago American Giants

John Taylor (CG) v. Tom Williams (CAG)
Giants            010 000 000 - 1

Dave Brown (CAG) v Luther Farrell (CG)
American Giants   101 110 100 - 5
Giants            010 001 011 - 4

Have to give the Giants credit for putting up a good fight in the late innings of game two. The American Giants were the best team in the league in the regular season while the Giants were by far the worst. The Giants could have folded easily with such a discrepancy in talent.

1956 Summer Olympics Women's 4x100 Relay

Although this race held true to real life form, there were a number of twists along the way.

The heavily favored Australians were steady but unspectacular in the first 150 meters while the Americans managed to match them them stride for stride at the end of the second leg. However, a disastrous beginning of the third leg dropped the Americans to third while the Brits and Aussies were running stride for stride.

With the world's best sprinter Elizabeth Cuthbert anchoring the last 100 meters, the Aussies had to like their chances. Enigmatically though, Cuthbert started her leg off terribly slow allowing Britain to take the lead. Just as it was looking as if the Brits may steal the gold from the Aussies, in Melbourne no less, Cuthbert showed her true talent with a blazing finish to claim the gold.

1. Australia       45.17
2. Great Britain   45.25
3. USA             45.34

4. Germany         45.52
5. Italy           45.61
6. USSR            45.66

1956 Summer Olympics Men's 4 x 100 metre relay

1. USA            39.54
2. USSR           39.67
3. Germany        40.34

4. Italy          40.42
5. Poland         41.23
6. Great Britain  41.39

USSR actually led the second and third legs of the relay, but Bobby Morrow's outstanding anchor leg brought home the gold for the US. The US team was Ira Murchison, Bobby Morrow, Leamon King, and Thane Baker.

1920 Negro National League Tournament Round 1 - StL v KC

I don't have enough patience to do long replays, so how about a tournament instead? This is the 1920 Negro National League using Spring Coming Baseball. The format is best of three.

This link has great info about the league.
http://www.seamheads.com/NegroLgs/year.php?yearID=1920&lgID=NNL

First series - Kansas City Monarchs versus St. Louis Giants. I took creative license and added starting pitchers to the narrative.

Game 1
Bill Drake (StL) vs Reuben Curry (KC)
Giants 3  - Monarchs 4
The Monarchs carried a 3-1 lead into the top of the 8th when the Giants scored a single run to make it a 3-2 game. The Giants added another run in the top of the ninth to tie the game only to see the Monarchs win it walk off style in the bottom of the ninth.

Game 2
Sam Crawford (KC) v Wayne Curry (StL)
Monarchs 1 - Giants 3
Crawford was good, but Curry was even better tossing six shutout innings before the Monarchs managed a single run in the seventh.

Game 3
John Finner (StL) v Bullet Joe Rogan (KC)
Giants 1  -  Monarchs 2
Single runs in the first and second gave the Hall of Famer Rogan all the run support he would need as he wins the series for the Monarchs by out-dueling Finner.

Monarchs advance to the semifinals.
