1975 Cardinals vs Giants (NFL)
1975 Cards 1975 Giants
St. Louis 31
New York 28
Cards nearly blow 24 point lead as Morton ditched the running game and started throwing the ball all over the field and score19 21 fourth quarter points. They recovered two onsides kick at advance all the down to the Cardinal 28 near the end of the game. With a better kicker, maybe they play it safe and set up the tying foeld goal, but they their kicker is really shaky, so they tried to get closer only to see Morton get sacked for a 10 yard loss. On the following play, Morton completed pass to the Cardinal 22, but time expired.
Otis and Metcalf were outstanding for the Cards while Hart was very efficient.
I forgot to save the boxscore and don't have the scoring summary, but here are some key stats.
Leaders
Rushing (Att-Yds)
StL - Terry Metcalf 15-114 2 TDs, Jim Otis 18-83 1TD
NYG - Ron Johnson 9-25, Joe Dawkins 5-21
Passing (Com-Att-Yds-TD-Int)
StL - Jim Hart 13-20-177-1-0
NYG - Craig Morton 24-50-351-4-3
Receiving
StL - Mel Gray 7-112 1TD
NYG - Walker Gillette 7-107 3 TDs, Bob Tucker 8-115

1975 Houston Oilers at Cleveland Browns
The Oilers beat the Browns 17-3. Not a particularly interesting game, but here are few highlights (or lowlights):
* Oilers placekicker Kevin Butler missed 3 FGs.
* Greg Pruitt had just 19 yards on 18 carries and lost 2 fumbles.
* Dan Pastorini threw 3 more INTs. I think that's 11 in 4 games!
* The Oilers scored their first TD on a fumble recovery following a 25 yard completion by the Browns.
* Reggie Rucker had 9 receptions for the Browns but for only 62 yards.
Box score
Oilers are now 2-2 in the replay. In real life they were 3-1 to this point. Next up - the Redskins at home.

1975 Oilers versus Chargers
The Chargers owned the second half and win 34-24.
How did this happen? First off, the Oilers had 4 turnovers to the Chargers 2. But it was even worse than the margin suggests because the Oilers turnovers were deadly. In the first half Pastorini threw an interception at his own 16 that was returned to the Oilers 1 yard line. In the second half he threw an INT at his own 12. Finally, when the Oilers were trailing 31-24 late in the game, Kenny Burrough fumbled away the Oilers last chance to tie the game by putting the ball on the ground at the Oilers' 32. That's a total of 17 points on three Oilers turnovers and the Chargers don't have to go more 15 yards on any of the drives.
Still, the Chargers did have a couple of nice drives thanks to some crazy dice rolls. When the Oilers won the LOS battle, and that was most of the time, the Chargers rolled just the right numbers to make the play work. And when the Oilers lost the LOS, the difference was critical. It was frustrating, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.

1975 Houston Oilers at New England Patriots
Game 1 at New England
Ok, just played my first game of DICE Football, and wouldn't you know it, the game goes into overtime.
The Oilers had some opportunities to win it in regulation, but they blew it. In the first half Dan Pastorini threw a costly pass that was intercepted at the Patriot 7 yard line. Skip Butler missed a 37 yard FG in the fourth quarter, but did find the uprights late in the quarter to tie the game.
The Patriots won the coin toss for overtime, but did nothing with the ball and had to punt from their own 19. The Oilers took possession with great field position at their own 49. On 3rd and 4, Pastorini hit Burrough for a 32 yard gain down to the Patriot 17. The Oiler's worked the ball down to the 10 before sending out Butler to try an end the game. Butler's kick went through the uprights and the Oilers win 26-23!
This game featured 42 incompletions and 7 FGs.
Since it's usually a pain for me to try and format it here, I'll have posted the box score at Google docs.
