Herb Score - April 19. 1956

April 19, 1956
Cleveland (Herb Score) at Chicago White Sox (Jack Harshman)

In the first few innings both pitchers struggled a bit with a lot of dice rolls being out of their control ranges. They still managed to get key strikeouts or double plays to keep the game low scoring.

The Indians scored two runs in the top of the first on a Jim Busby single that scored Al Smith and Al Rosen. The Sox cut the lead in half on Luis Aparicio's second inning double that scored Larry Doby. Walt Dropo raced home on the same play, but was nailed at the plate by Gene Woodling's accurate throw. The Sox tied in the game in the fifth when Minnie Minoso singled home Jack Harshman.

That was all the scoring until the top of the fourteenth. Gene Woodling led off with a walk and went to second on Bobby Avila's sac bunt. Al Rosen's two out single brought him home to give the Indians a 3-2 lead. Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to seal the win.

The White Sox used 7 pitchers while the Indians used 5. There were 35 players who got into this game. It was almost like one of those youth baseball games where everyone has to play!

1937 Horse racing results June 26 to July 5

No surprise here as Seabiscuit ($8.00, $6.00, $3.50) finished 4 lengths ahead of Aneroid ($4.50, 3.25). Rosemont ($3.50) edged Memory Book by a head for third.

Empire City Handicap

Rex Flag ($10.00, 6.00, 4.00) beats Flying Scot ($5.00, 3.50) by two lengths. Mosawtre ($5.00) claimed third finishing 4 lengths behind Flying Scot.

Stars and Stripes

Count Morse ($8.00, 5.00, 3.50) held off Infantry ($5.00,3.50)to win by 2.5 lengths. Finance ($3.25) finished third when Whopper was disqualified for bumping.

I believe that makes exactly 25 races completed so far in this season. Fifteen of the races have been won by the real life winners.
