Rodney McCray birthday replay

I'm a couple of days late with this birthday replay.

The 85-86 Lakers kill the Rockets. Not a happy birthday for Rodney McCray.

Birthday Replay - Ted Williams

I'm a day late with this, but Ted Williams was born on August 30, 1918 and here's a replay of an August 30, 1949 Red Sox game at Detroit.

         R   H  E
Boston   5  10  2
Detroit  4   9  0

WP - Ellis Kinder
LP - Fred Hutchinson
Sv - Walt Masterson

Ted's day:
1st inning - 2 run homer
3rd inning - hit by pitch, forced out at second
4th inning - walk, stranded on first
7th inning - flied out
9th inning - singled, picked off at first by pitcher

Despite 19 hits, 13 walks, 2 hit batters, and 2 errors, there were no double plays in this game.

The game ended when Boston's catcher Birdie Tebbets picked off Detroit's Don Kolloway at third base. Kolloway represented the potential tying run.

As noted above, Ted Williams was picked off in the top half of the inning, so this was the second successful pick off in this game.

Birthday Replay - Ken Norton

Today is Norton's birthday, so I used Legends of Boxing Computer to match him up against Muhammed Ali. Norton was narrowly winning the bout and only needed to finish round 12, but he was gassed down the stretch and Ali hit him with a cross that dropped him to the canvas at 2:44. Norton remained down and Ali snatches victory from the jaws of defeat.

Thomas Hearns vs Michael Spinks

A Light Heavyweight fight with Legends of Boxing.

Spinks really took it to Hearns knocking him down three times in the first two rounds and opening severe cuts over both eyes. Those cuts would be The Hit Man's undoing as the bout was stopped in the 8th due to the cuts. Spinks win by TKO (cuts) in the 8th round.
