1956 Top Mound Showdown - Conley vs Newcombe

Braves (Gene Conley 10-62)   at   Dodgers (Don Newcombe 10-62)

Conley found himself in trouble from the start of this one giving up two runs in the first and three in the third. He was yanked in the fourth inning after giving up his sixth run of the game. Meanwhile, Newcombe allowed only three baserunners in the first six innings. He struggled a bit in the seventh and eighth, so he was relieved by Clem Labine in the ninth.

Jack Dittmar took Labine deep for his second home run of the game and brought the Braves to within two runs of the Dodgers, but they would get no closer.

Gil Hodges had 5 RBI for the Dodgers. Dittmar had 4 RBI for the Braves.
