The Yankees scored the first two runs of the game thanks to a George Selkirk second inning single that plated Bill Dickey.Selkirk led off the fifth by reaching on a Mel Almada error and then scored on Frankie Crosetti's triple.

The Sox bounced back with three in the bottom of the sixth. Rick Ferrell helped his brother with a double scoring Carl Reynolds and Joe Cronin. Ferrell scored the go ahead run on Ski Melillo's single.

Boston added two unearned runs in the bottom of seventh when Ben Chapman misplayed a two out fly ball that should concluded the inning into a two base error scoring Wes Ferrell and Mel Almada.

Combs homered in the top of the eigth to bring the Yankee within two runs of the Sox, but Wes Ferrell would let them get no closer.
