1962-63 NHL game 20

Montreal at New York

After sleep-walking through their prior games in this mini-replay, the Habs finally get a win. Their first period offensive explosion came from the very unlikely stick of defenseman Lou Fontinato. With all their struggles, they should be happy to get it from anywhere.

1974-75 Houston Aeros mini-season

Even though I still have not finished the 1962-63 mini-replay I started 4 years ago, I have decided to start another mini-replay. This one will feature 20 games with the 1974-75 Houston Aeros. I start with a home game against the less than stellar Chicago crew.

Despite being a poor matchup on paper, obviously the Chicago boys acquitted themselves well finishing with a 3rd period flourish to earn the tie. A disappointing result for the Aeros.

1974 World Cup

Second Round of Group Play

Group A
             W-D-L  PTS
Netherlands  2-1-0   5
East Germany 2-0-1   4
Brazil       0-1-2   1
Argentina    0-1-2   1

Group B

Poland       2-1-0   5
Sweden       2-0-1   4
Yugoslavia   1-0-2   2
West Germany 0-1-2   1

So, The Netherlands will meet Poland for the Cup. Host team West Germany and traditional juggernaut Brazil completely fizzle in this second round of group play.

Final

Netherlands          1  -  3  Poland
63' Johan Neeskens            25' Andrzej Szarmach
                              33' Andrezj Szarmach
                              51' Grzegorz Lato

Poland's Cinderella run ends with a triumphant thrashing of the Dutch.
