Lou Gehrig led off the second with a single and then scored on Tony Lazzeri's triple. Art Jorgens' single plated Lazzeri to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead.
Mel Almada cut the lead in half in when he scored on a Bing Miller single in the third.
The Yankees added another run in the top of the ninth when Myril Hoag raced home on a wild pitch.
Ruffing retired the last 13 hitters he faced en route to the 3-1 win. Grove pitched pretty well against the Bombers, but it just wasn't enough.
