1975 Oilers versus Chargers

The Chargers owned the second half and win 34-24.

How did this happen? First off, the Oilers had 4 turnovers to the Chargers 2. But it was even worse than the margin suggests because the Oilers turnovers were deadly. In the first half Pastorini threw an interception at his own 16 that was returned to the Oilers 1 yard line. In the second half he threw an INT at his own 12. Finally, when the Oilers were trailing 31-24 late in the game, Kenny Burrough fumbled away the Oilers last chance to tie the game by putting the ball on the ground at the Oilers' 32. That's a total of 17 points on three Oilers turnovers and the Chargers don't have to go more 15 yards on any of the drives.

Still, the Chargers did have a couple of nice drives thanks to some crazy dice rolls. When the Oilers won the LOS battle, and that was most of the time, the Chargers rolled just the right numbers to make the play work. And when the Oilers lost the LOS, the difference was critical. It was frustrating, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.
